Watermelon, this juicy summer fruit is a quick way to refresh and hydrate you in a natural way on hot summer days. The fruit contains more than 90% of water and holds very low calorie values that you can eat without worrying about your diet. When compared to other fruits it is utilized less in fruit smoothies but watermelon smoothies are a refreshing change from the traditional juices and smoothies and mixing the right flavors makes this heaven after being outdoors on intense heat.

Watermelon comes with healthy dose of vitamin C, beta-caroten, lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids. To take full advantage of lycopene consume watermelon as ripe as you can as the flesh is redder, it contains higher amount of lycopene.

How to Pick Watermelon for Smoothies

Pick organic watermelon if possible and make sure the outer rind is firm but well-ripen and the inner flesh is redder. Cut down the fruit into half and remove the rind and seeds and use just the red flesh. Freezing watermelon cubes for at least 2 hours will give thicker texture to the smoothie. Since watermelon contains more water use less amount of liquid while blending and make sure to use fleshy fruits and avoid citrus fruits.

Below I have shared some incredible recipes for watermelon smoothies. Go! Try out and stay refreshed and hydrated all day long.
